One day, I was thinking about the surge in popularity of the crossover utility vehicle segment and the booming interest in USA "overlanding".
It makes a lot of sense to overland a crossover because hundreds upon hundreds of miles have to be driven "on-road" before getting to the point of interest. A crossover will typically make that long drive more comfortably and efficiently. Keep in mind that the goal of "overlanding" is to explore, the goal of "off-roading" is to conquer difficult terrain and obstacles. These are two different mind sets, and when the going gets rough, an overlander will simply turn around.
The phrase goes a little deeper than just overlanding a crossover, it also means to literally cross over into overlanding. In other words, take a break from the TV, get off your couch and start enjoying the outdoors!
Being born and raised in the Los Angeles area, and living around the city my entire life, I've always aspired to live a more active outdoorsy lifestyle. It wasn't until 2017, just right before the USA "overlanding boom", that I purchased my first full-time AWD Crossover/SUV (2015 Subaru Forester XT). My YouTube channel and this website are here to share my experiences, progression, failures and triumphs while #crossoverlanding.
